Tushar Bhatia is a sitar player, music composer, writer, producer and presenter, who works across the fields of stage, film and television. With a wealth of classical training that spans over thirty years, Tushar has a keen interest in all musical forms, including ghazals, folk, as well as Western classical music.
Indian and western music, vocal and instrumental, light and classical, lyric and melody, composer and artist – all these dualities collapse and merge in the persona of Tushar Bhatia, making him a unique figure in the world of contemporary music. Sitarist, vocalist, composer, lyricist, presenter, and much more – his musical genius resists boundaries.
Coming from a highly cultured business family, based in Mumbai, Tushar’s musical sensibility was nurtured over two decades by gurus of the stature of Pt. P B Debburman & Pt. Arvind Parikh (sitar), Pt. Dinkar Kaikini, Pt. K. G. Ginde, Pt. Yashwant Bua Mahale (vocal). In turn, Tushar has himself evolved as a much-sought-after teacher today, with both vocal and sitar students across the world.
Further, keenly aware of his responsibility to emblazon young hearts with the desire to perpetuate the great music of India, Tushar has been designing and presenting programmes down the years, on different aspects of Indian music. His programmes like ‘Rasikeshu’ ‘Gaur Baran Radhika’, ‘Timeless Tagore’ ‘Tomar Surer Dhara,’ ‘Vande Matram’ ‘Dharti KAhe Pukar Ke’, Rang-E-Khusro’ Janani Jammabhoomischa’, ‘Anand Dhara’ ‘Tum Pukar Lo’, ‘Ye sham Mastani’, ‘Sham-E-Ghazal’ are hugely popular with audiences everywhere, on account of their researched content and stellar performances by artists. The programmes at once educate and impart ‘ranjan’, the true purpose of music.
Tushar’s robust patriotism and musical credentials made him the natural choice of the Ministry of Culture, to compose a song on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in 2018 for commemorating the world’s tallest 'statue of unity'. The song was “E Che Sardar” With his deep commitment to music and Indian culture, Tushar Bhatia continues his musical odyssey, leaving indelible marks on every path he treads.
